Annette Defoort è un'artista autodidatta belga che non si cura di nessuna tendenza o moda nell'arte. Questa è l'essenza del suo lavoro: due mani nella forza della terra. Il suo lavoro consiste nell'unire arbitrariamente diverse fette di argilla tagliate a pezzi. Costruisce ogni scultura dall'interno e cerca di trattare l'argilla il meno possibile all'esterno. Le sue sculture sono archetipi di persone e animali. Ogni impressione di perfezione è consapevolmente evitata: il grezzo, il non levigato, il non pianificato e non affascinante è mantenuto per tutta l'opera.

Annette Defoort is a belgian self-taught artist who doesn't care about any trend or fashion in art. That's the essence of her work: two hands in the strength of the earth. Her work consists in arbitrarily joining together different slices of clay which were cut into pieces. She builds up each sculpture from the inside and tries to treat the clay as seldom as possible on the outside. Her sculptures are archetypes of people and animals. Every impression of perfection is consciously avoided: the rough, the unpolished, the non-planned and non-charming is maintained throughout the whole work.
